Fashionable way to help the aged

AFTER months of hard work, the staff members at Clare's Hair Together and True Beauty have been putting the finishing touches on their upcoming fashion show.

But it's not just about a passion for fashion.

The event will help raise much needed funds for Akooroomak and event organiser, Clare's Hair Together and True Beauty stylist Storm Lahiff, hopes the efforts will pay off.

“We discussed who in town needed the most amount of help at the moment and we decided it was Akooroomak,” Mrs Lahiff said.

“Add to that the fact that almost everyone has some connection to Akooroomak through friends and family.”

Held at the Warwick Golf Club, the event will be hosted by Craig Zonca from ABC drive radio.

Models will showcase Rose City fashion and different styling from a Paris St theme to a raw and edgy glamorous grunge scene.

Singer/songwriter Jody Ellis, guitar soloist Michael Simms and singer/musician Emma Bell will perform throughout the night.

Madeline Lawson will perform a dramatic masquerade ballet.

Akooroomak director of nursing Kym Farrell said she was impressed with the professionalism of the show and hoped the community would get behind it.

She said Akooroomak provided an important service and relied on donations and fundraising to continue to do so.

“We have 100 residents in our care and not only that, we also go out and offer support within the community,” she said.

“Everyone, in some way, is touched by the aged care issue, whether it is you, your parent or grandparent.

“So many people involved in this are young people and it's great to see them caring about aged care issues.”

Raffles and auctions will be held throughout the evening with some fantastic prizes on offer.

Mrs Lahiff said community support from businesses had already been overwhelming.

“We would just really like to thank everyone who has helped out already,” she said.

There are only 150 tickets available at $25 with canapes included.

They are available from the Warwick Golf Club, Clare's Hair Together and True Beauty or Akooroomak.

The event is on Saturday, August 13, at 6.30pm at the Warwick Golf Club.
