Fast and fresh on road to health

EATING healthy is just a case of being fit, fast and fresh in Warwick, with a new cafe in town becoming a haven for fitness and health buffs.

Warwick's newest place to dine, Fit, Fast and Fresh, has been open for only four months and already it is a popular haunt for residents looking to change their eating habits.

Owner and chef Luke Levett, who has six years of chef experience in Sydney, is a big health and fitness fan.

"I got into healthy food when I first started working out," he said.

"I had a really bad diet and after seeing the benefits of eating healthy, I started putting the right stuff into my body."

The idea of opening a cafe had always been an ambition of Luke's, but it wasn't until he started visiting his partner in Warwick that he really saw the need for something different in town.

"I struggled to eat healthy in Warwick - I gained 14kg," he said.

"I wanted to do something different in Warwick, there was nothing like this in town.

"In Sydney there is a lot of this sort of thing, all organic."

Luke was convinced it would be slow going at first, but the healthy eating concept of Fit, Fast and Fresh appears to have taken off in the Rose City.

"There's a definitely a market for this in Warwick," he said.

"It's hard for someone who can't have gluten or sugar to eat out.

"We have a lot of gluten-free and sugar-free foods - most things people wouldn't have tried before."

From home-made smoothies and protein shakes, to healthy fresh salads and raw cakes, the menu at Fit, Fast and Fresh has tastes to appeal to everyone.

"All my dressings and sauces are homemade," Luke said.

"I don't like using deep fried anything; we use stone grill."

Using all local produce from suppliers such as Percy's and Bell's Butchers, Luke is always changing the menu.

"I want to go a lot more healthy and organic," Luke said.

"We've just started doing dinners on Friday and Saturday.

"We're expanding more into main courses, which I love cooking."

So what are the benefits of eating healthy?

Luke sums it all up perfectly with one simple analogy.

"You wouldn't put crap fuel in your car," he said.

"So why would you put bad food in your body?"

With BYO and take-away options, a smoothie bar/takeaway area with comfy couches, a separate cafe and a small fancy dining/function room, Fit, Fast and Fresh is well equipped.

There is also an element of family friendliness, with a kids' room adjoining the cafe and dining/function room so parents can enjoy a healthy meal with their children.

"We try to cater for kids," Luke said.

"The earlier you start them eating healthier foods, the easier it'll be in the long run."

On Dragon St, Fit, Fast and Fresh is close to the Condamine Medical Centre and has plenty of street parking away from the centre of town.
