Fastest car in history at Dragfest on Saturday

THE fastest car to race at Warwick Dragway will be in town for two performances tomorrow.

Rod Bailey will travel from South Ripley with a nitro funny car dubbed Chemical Warfare to delight the crowd in the second round of JP Racing Dragfest.

Bailey owns one of only two nitro funny cars in Australia.

"We run a fuel mix of 90% nitro methane and 10% methanol,” he said.

The best time for 200m (1/8mile) for the nitro funny car is 3.32 seconds at 418kmh.

It will perform on the dragway at 5pm and 7pm Saturday.

Dragfest started 13 years ago and despite drag racing being one of the sports hit hardest by rain, there have not been any cancellations.

The event started with 80 competitors and has reached 268.

Nominations are still open on the day and club officials are hoping for 240 plus this year.

Racing will be in quick ET, extreme sedan, fast street, street, drag bike, young guns, blown outlaws, radial, nostalgia street (pre-1978) and street bike classes.

Action gets under way from 10am tomorrow and all day Sunday

There will be a car show on tomorrow with judging from 10am-2pm. There's free entry to the grounds for car and driver with prizes for best sedan, best commercial, best rod, best coupe and judges' choice.

In the past, there has been up to 30 cars in the show.
