Father disputes raping daughter on birthday

A FATHER is disputing claims he raped his daughter on her birthday in Caboolture and then continued a sexual relationship with her.

The 37-year-old man, who cannot be named so as to protect the identity of the child, has pleaded not guilty at the Brisbane District Court to maintaining an sexual relationship with a child and rape.

The court heard the girl, who is now 14, was living with foster parents in 2012 but about to be returned to her biological parent's care when she had a "meltdown".

She said she did not want to return to her biological parents as she did not know "what he'd do to her."

The girl later told police her father had touched her inappropriately since her seventh or eighth birthday.

The Crown will allege the offending continued over several years, beginning on the girl's birthday and continuing until 2011 when she said the last incident occurred.

The court heard she kept it secret for so long because her father allegedly told her not to tell anyone as he would "go to prison" if she did.

The trial continues.
