Federal Government replacing two more Southern Downs bridges

TWO old, timber Southern Downs' bridges will be replaced as part of a $1.37 million investment under the Federal Government's Bridge Renewal Programme.

The two bridges are on Boxs Rd at Tannymorel and Connells Bridge at Bony Mountain.

Maranoa MP Bruce Scott announced the funding recipients for Round Two of the programme yesterday.

"Connells Bridge, at Bony Mountain, will be replaced with concrete.," he said.

"This bridge is a vital transport infrastructure, connecting the local community with businesses and producers, that's why this Liberal National Government will invest $737,000 to boost the local economy."

Mr Scott the Boxs Rd bridge was a critical transport link for residents, farmers and business in Tannymorel and Wiyarra.

"It's currently restricted by a five-tonne load limit," he said.

"This government will invest $634,000 to replace this timber bridge with concrete to improve not only the region's freight logistics network but also increase safety and productivity."

Mr Scott said $3.9 million had been invested by the Federal Government into bridge projects across the Maranoa electorate.
