Festival gets moving to expand on entertainment

WARWICK'S CBD is set to come alive tomorrow night for the annual Rose and Rodeo Festival Mardi Gras celebrations.

The Mardi Gras festivities mark the start of the Warwick Rodeo entertainment with the Warwick Credit Union Street Parade and the Warwick Rodeo Craft Markets this Saturday.

There will be plenty of fun to be had with tasty treats, oversized slides, showbags and prizes to be won in the sideshow alley games.

Mikey Dwan from Destination Southern Downs said this year the festivities would move away from Leslie Park and return to Grafton St.

"This year we've moved a little bit to incorporate Grafton St where it was a few years ago," he said.

"There should be a great carnival feel to the festivities."

In addition to the stage in front of the Warwick Town Hall there will be roving acts and the annual Graham Buchner Celebrity Horse Race.

Mr Dwan promises a fun night for the whole family.

"The Mardi Gras is always a family-friendly night," he said.

"There will be plenty of free events on the night to engage the whole family."

Local Lions and Rotary clubs will run food stalls.

The Warwick Thistle Pipe Band, Scots PGC Pipe Band and the roving Memphis Moovers will provide plenty of music to accompany the fun.

Streets will be closed between Grafton and Palmerin Sts from 2pm tomorrow.

The Mardi Gras celebrations will kick off at 5.30pm tomorrow and run until 9pm.
