Festival promotes concept of peace

THE central location of Leslie Park provided the perfect setting for the Peace Festival at the weekend as celebrations based on the theme Everybody Counts went off without a hitch.

Festival-goers travelled from far and wide to enjoy the festivities at the biennial event.

Beautiful weather persisted throughout the weekend allowing patrons to soak up the sunshine and immerse themselves in the activities on offer.

Organiser Ruth Power said this year's event turned out to be hugely successful and she could not have been happier with the weather.

“We have had a fantastic weekend and the weather has been very kind to us,” Mrs Power said.

“It has been better than we could have ever hoped for.”

This year was the first featuring a showcase of Aboriginal artists and Mrs Power said that aspect of the program had been one of the highlights of the weekend.

“On Saturday we had a fantastic line-up of Aboriginal music, which was topped off by a truly amazing concert at the town hall that night,” she said.

“The magical lantern parade finished off the activities in the park yesterday evening.”

However, the Peace Festival is not quite over yet, with an environment symposium, Awakening the Dreamer, at Warwick Central State School Hall today from 9am to 1pm, followed by a Japan Benefit Concert, To Japan With Love, at the town hall at 3pm this afternoon.
