Fighters shape up in club fundraiser
WIRAC will come alive on Saturday night when the Fundraiser Fight Night takes place.
The night will bring up to 15 charity fights, including two Warwick Cowboys players in action, as well as some other notable names.
The night will raise funds for the Rose City Boxing Club and Chris Fox from Fox Fight Promotions said he hoped the night would be as successful as the first one this year.
"We held a fight night in April to raise money for junior soccer colts to go on a trip to Japan," Fox said.
"I'm not sure exactly how much was raised, but it was a very successful night.
"That one went off without a hitch and hopefully this one will be the same.
"That was my first time promoting an event as well, so I think I learnt a bit from that night."
Fox said the main fight would feature two heavyweights of the ring.
"It will be between John Brown from Tasmania and Jimmy Stanley from Wondai," he said.
"John has won numerous titles in Tasmania, so he'll be hard to beat.
"But Jimmy won about three Australian titles as a junior and also has one senior title to his name.
"It will be a really good fight to watch."
Fox said there would be plenty of other quality fights.
"We'll also have former MMA fighter Chris Hielscher from Toowoomba up against former Queensland Professional champion Dean Weston," Fox said.
"Warwick Cowboys rugby league player Dave Hallman won an Australian junior title and he'll be fighting former Queensland Professional Welterweight titleholder Craig Monagle."
The night will be run in conjunction with the Rose City Boxing Club.
"I just hope we can raise funds for them like we did for the soccer colts," Fox said. "It'll be a really good night so I encourage people to come along and watch."
Tickets cost $10 for adults, $5 for children (six-16 years of age) and $25 for a family ticket (two adults and two kids).
