COMMENT: Dob-in a Dealer first step in fighting ice plague
CRIME Stoppers have kicked off an important campaign (p2), asking community members to get involved in fighting drug crime.
As the Dob in a Dealer name suggests, the strategy encourages reporting suspected drug offenders in the community.
This time the campaign has a special focus on those dealing methamphetamine, or ice as it is more commonly known.
While many people are reluctant to "dob in" someone, even if they know they are doing the wrong thing, this campaign could be the time to re-think that attitude.
Ice is a growing problem in our society and has devastatating effects on those who are consumed by it.
It is one of the most addictive drugs on the market, if not the most addictive, which comes with obvious dangers and consequences.
Drug addiction can poison and destroy family bonds and relationships and severely impact finances, health and employment.
While this is true of any drug, ice has the added bonus of turning addicts paranoid and violent and can incite psychotic, delusional, suicidal, homicidal or hallucinatory behaviour.
Those exposed to it are getting younger and younger and this drug is a threat to everyone in our co,,unity and especially young, vulnerable and impressionable kids.
There are few drugs that cause the widespread carnage ice does and we all have a responsibilty to try to reduce its prevalence in our society, before it really takes hold.
