Final design for Leslie Park youth space completed

THE final design for the Leslie Park youth space is completed and is expected to be open by the end of this year.

Southern Downs Regional Council parks co-ordinator John Newley said tenders for the work had already been called and the successful contractor would be announced soon.

Mr Newley said the space would give the youth of the region an area to play music and perform and enjoy concerts.

"The work to take place will be a covered entertainment stage, amphitheatre, new footpath area, landscaping and seating and access ramp to the back of stage," he said.

"This new area can be used in conjunction with portable staging and will increase the area and the amount of people using the area."

The original concept for the youth space has involved local high school students providing information and feedback about the best use of the park space.

The plan sat on the backburner for about six years before council found the money to fund the idea.

In the 2012/13 council budget, more than $1 million was set aside for parks works across the region, with $243,000 of that amount to be spent on play equipment, pathways and the youth space.
