Final round of bracket series will thrill at dragway
DRAG RACING: The D.A.S Sutton Family Contracting Bracket Series will finish with round 4 on Saturday.
Gates open at 9am Saturday, with qualifying from noon to 5.30pm and racing from 6pm.
Warwick District Drag Racing Association committee member Matt Loy said once the final races of round 4 of the bracket series were over, there would be a shoot-out between the 10 points leaders.
"We could have three or four of the points leaders in one class," Loy said.
"The shoot-out will be a dial your own time final where competitors nominate the time they expect to do over the eighth mile (200m).
"The driver or rider closest to their dial-in time will win $1000 and the second placegetter will be presented with $500."
The dial-in format enables cars and bikes to compete in the shoot-out even if they were not on the dragway at the same time.
"Each of the 10 finalists will have a single pass without worrying about anyone in the other lane," Loy said.
A driver or a rider could win, depending on who was closest to dial-in times.
Loy said the bracket meeting series was being contested over four rounds.
"We didn't have any washouts in the series and have attracted 80 drivers and riders each time," he said.
Competitors can nominate and race on the day even if they have not been part of the series to date.
The association has set new dates for round 2 of JP Racing Dragfest, December 8-9.
The club had 214 competitors entered for the original date in October when rain led to the cancellation of the weekend racing.
Association president Chris Loy expected most drivers and riders to return for what was traditionally the biggest meeting of the year.
Often competitors from as far as Townville and Sydney.
