Final spot on the mind of Jillaroos
RUGBY LEAGUE: The Jillaroos are one game away from qualifying for their fifth straight Women's Rugby League World Cup.
Australia is unbackable favourite heading into its semi-final encounter against 100-1 outsiders Canada in Sydney tomorrow.
Former Scots PGC student Heather Ballinger has been named on an extended interchange bench for the fixture and said the Australians wouldn't take their opponents lightly despite being heavily favoured.
"We'll approach tomorrow like any other game,” Ballinger said.
"The girls have their routine that they stick to.
"We still don't know who's playing or not but the 17 that are chosen will go out there and do what they have to do.”
All signs point to a final involving Australia and New Zealand however Ballinger said the side wasn't pencilling in the fixture just yet.
"We'll focus on our game tomorrow and trying to get through to the final, before worrying about a potential game against New Zealand,” she said.
"If I'm selected for tomorrow, I'll focus on carrying the ball forward up the middle and, hopefully, open it up for our backs.”
The Jillaroos have had the luxury of using the full-depth of their squad, something Ballinger said would help them for the finals.
"If we do have any injuries, we always know the replacement is going to do just as good a job,” she said.
"At the end of the day, whoever goes out thyere is going to do us proud.”
Australia takes on Canada tomorrow at 3pm AEST, following New Zealand and England at 1pm. Both games are broadcast live on 7mate.
