Finals showdown for our rugby women
RUGBY UNION: The Warwick Water Rats women are 14 minutes away from securing the club's first grand final spot in more than a decade.
Coach Lauren Fowler and her team will play Dalby in the women's sevens qualifying final at 12.45pm Saturday at Clive Berghofer Stadium (athletic oval).
The winner will play Bears in the grand final at 2.45pm.
"I am confident, absolutely, we can beat Dalby,” Fowler said.
"But we must turn up ready to play and go hard in the first seven minutes.”
If Warwick wins, Fowler said it would be important to shut down the Bears runners early in the grand final over 10-minute halves.
"Bears have got a lot of runners,” she said.
The Water Rats coach is not complaining about playing in the qualifying final.
"The early game will give both teams the chance to get rid of some nerves,” she said.
"The team which wins the first game will have an advantage in the final.”
Fowler has named a squad of 15 and won't make a decision on the 12 until grand final day.
"We have some players unavailable,” she said.
