Finals showdown in Warwick cricket

RSL Diggers will be seeking a third successive A-grade premiership in a finals battle against Wheatvale at Slade Park at 9.30am tomorrow.

Wheatvale has been the most successful club in the past two decades and Chris Cantwell is seeking his first title as captain.

TEAM PROFILES – RSL Diggers

Colin O’Brien Club secretary, opening batsman and captain when Diggers won its first premiership for 25 years in 2008-2009.

Jeff Morris – Diggers club captain and Davis Shield opener. Scored 300 runs this season.

Gavin Scheiwe – No. 3 batsman making his return to cricket this season with Diggers. Likes to take the shine off the ball.

Jamie Saunders – Opening bat for Davis Shield team and wicketkeeper. Bats No.4 for Diggers and scored a century this season.

Chris McEvoy – Team captain, Mitchell Shield player and match winning all-rounder with bat or ball. Scored 400 runs this season.

Brett McEvoy – Hard-hitting all-rounder, Mitchell Shield player and last year’s representative player of the year.

Steve Martin – Opening bowler, handy batsmen and top fielder. Plays Mitchell Shield.

Brett Savins – Club treasurer, handy batsman anywhere in order, sharp fieldsman at point.

Andrew Crestani – First season with Diggers, 16-year-old developing into a good off spinner. Simon Crestani – Left arm swing bowler, leading wicket taker (24) for Diggers, first full season of senior cricket.

Mark Crestani – Right arm swing bowler who takes the new ball. First full season.

Jamie Green – Likely 12th man, great team player who is very quick in the field.

Wheatvale

Chris Cantwell: Opening batsman and pace bowler. Won four of his five grand finals.

Paul Cantwell: Scored 74 on Sunday to secure a grand final spot for his team. Accurate bowler with 4-9 off eight overs in one game.

Neil Cantwell: Aggressive top order batsman who will bowl his medium pacers if required. Opens the Warwick batting in Mitchell Shield.

Jarred Collins: The leading run scorer for Wheatvale this season hitting one century. Wicketkeeper who makes a few stumpings.

Craig Cantwell: Solid middle-order batsman who will bowl second or third change. Chris Malone: Quick scoring middle-order batsman. He has plenty of energy in the field and encourages team-mates with plenty of talk.

Adam Cummins: Left arm opening bowler and hard-hitting lower order batsman. Lifts his intensity for the major games.

Nathan Bell: The team spin bowler and a batsman who guided the team to victory on Sunday against minor premiers Inglewood.

Hugh Wren: Brilliant junior cricketer who took four wickets in four balls, two hat tricks, this season. Improving every week.

Jack Breen: Pace bowler who plays regional junior cricket. Bowls with pace and accuracy.

AJ McQueen: Right arm swing bowler who played for South Queensland U19s this season.

Peter Cuskelly: 12th man. Wheatvale school principal who adds energy in the field.
