Fingerling release great news for anglers

FISHING: Some claim it as the most popular sport in the nation but for a keen angler, all that matters is if they are biting.

The more fingerlings released into streams and dams, the better chance of a catch.

The Warwick District Fish Stocking Association took delivery of 1500 silver perch for the Condamine River, 1500 for Connolly Dam and 5000 for Leslie Dam last weekend from Nick Donges of Granite Belt Fish Hatchery at Severnlea.

Away from the fish business, Donges is an outstanding Redbacks Aussie rules player.

The Warwick District Fish Stocking Association will take delivery of 50,000 golden perch fingerlings on Saturday from the Australian Native Fish Hatchery at Murgon.

Association secretary Eddie Kemp said 20,000 would be distributed at 12 sites along the Condamine River, from Junabee to Pratten.

“We will release 30,000 fingerlings in Leslie Dam,” Kemp said.

“Nick Donges is bringing another 10,000 golden perch for Connolly Dam on the last weekend in February.

“That will make 180,000 fingerlings released in dams and streams in the Warwick association area this stocking season.

“There is a chance we may release more in March.”
