FIRE WARNING: A controlled burn on Ford Rd on Saturday night. Terry West

Fire danger is extreme today

At the weekend

The region was under the influence of a high pressure system and this gave us great conditions.

Saturday was a beautiful spring day with light west to north-westerly winds for most of the day.

After a cool morning we had blue skies and the sun shining with a temperature range from 5-27 degrees.

Sunday saw very similar conditions as the high started to move east and just off the coast by late afternoon.

Winds were from the west for most of the day.

It did warm up with temperatures from 7-30 degrees.

Today

Today will get a bit warmer as a trough starts to move across the southern half of the state and enters our region in the mid-afternoon.

This trough will be preceded by dry, gusty westerly winds.

This will increase the fire danger to extreme throughout the day.

The trough should move off the coast in the late afternoon.

There is no rain or storms associated with this trough.

10-33 degrees expected.

Tomorrow

The trough will move north along the east coast and this may generate showers for the south-east.

There is only a slight chance of showers in our region and they will not contain much rain.

A high entering the Bight will start to extend a ridge across the western parts of the state, keeping it dry to the west.

Light to moderate winds will be from the south tending to the west during the day.

10-28 degrees expected.

Wednesday

The high will move northeast and extend the ridge along the east coast.

This will keep our region dry, fine and clear.

Winds will be from the south in the early morning but will swing to the east during the day.

7-27 degrees expected.

Thursday

Thursday will see a new trough enter western Queensland and slowly move to the east.

Once again, this trough will be preceded by strong, gusty, south-westerly winds, increasing the fire danger.

No rain is associated with this trough so dry conditions will continue.

7-32 degrees expected.

Friday

Friday will be very hot with an extreme fire danger as hot and gusty westerly winds precede the trough.

There is no rain expected although coastal areas may see some showers once the trough starts to move through the region.

13-34 degrees expected.

The weekend ahead

At this stage the weekend is showing a chance of a storm or two for both days.

It should be partly overcast but still hot with temperatures around the low 30s.
