Fire dangers this weekend

THE Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) is reminding Southern Downs residents to be cautious and vigilant with heightened fire weather conditions for today and the weekend.

QFRS South West Regional Manager for Rural Operations Wayne Waltisbuhl said a very high fire danger had been predicted for a large area of the region, predominantly in the western area channel country, Warrego and Maranoa forecast districts.

"Very strong winds up to 40 kilometres an hour are expected and these pose a real risk for fires getting out of control," he said.
