Vehicle seen near home shortly before blaze erupted

UPDATE: Police are seeking information on a vehicle that was seen near a Southern Downs home shortly before the building was destroyed by fire.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokeswoman said crews were called to the Mt Stirling Rd home, south of Stanthorpe at Glen Aplin, at 8.40pm Sunday.

She said crews had the fire under control shortly before 11pm.

Police guarded the scene on Sunday night with investigators returning to the property yesterday to try to determine the cause of the fire.

Stanthorpe Criminal Investigation Branch officer Plain Clothes Senior Constable Michael Hauff said neighbours reported seeing a vehicle at the property just before the fire broke out.

"It was certainly very close to the vicinity of the fire," Snr Const. Hauff said.

No one was at home at the time of the blaze.

Snr Const. Hauff said the owners had used the property as a weekend home.

No one was home at the time of the fire and there were no reports of injuries.
