Fire threat averted at Massie
TWO houses under threat from a bushfire at Massie, north of Warwick, yesterday afternoon were saved by the combined efforts of four water bombers, urban and rural fire brigade units and volunteers.
The fire was reported at 12.17pm and was under control at 2.59pm.
The water bombers were in the area due to a fire at Ballandean and were quickly diverted to the fire at the western end of Lawlers Rd.
A spokeswoman for the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service said the fixed-wing aircraft used for water bombing were filled with water on the airstrip at Massie.
"Two homes were under threat but have been saved," she said.
There was no damage to property, only grass, timber and bush was burnt.
Two urban fire units from Warwick responded to the call and were joined by a unit from Allora, one based at the airstrip and rural units from Massie, Allora, Freestone, Pratten and Karara.
There was a rural fire water tanker at the airstrip along with a water tanker from the Southern Downs Regional Council.
At 4.30pm, rural fire units were mopping up at the Massie fire.
Meanwhile, the fire which was burning last week at Ballandean was within containment lines yesterday.
On Saturday, Texas urban and rural crews extinguished a fire on the Inglewood-Texas Rd.
