Fires break out on Southern Downs during high danger warning

VEGETATION fires are burning across the Southern Downs as dry air and hot temperatures create a very high fire danger rating.

Rural Fire Services report a fire burning at Leyburn Cunningham Rd and Connells Bridge Rd in Cunnin.

Crews first responded at 11.30am Tuesday and checked on it again at 9.30am Wednesday, however none remain on scene.

Emergency service calls reported a bush that ignited at McClure Lane at The Summit last night.

Three fire crews attended the scene at around 7pm and extinguished the fire within an hour, according to a spokeswoman from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.

The bushfire at Swanfels continues to burn in inaccessible land and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services are monitoring the scene.

Residents are asked to exercise extra caution tomorrow as the fire danger rises to ‘Extreme’.
