Fires flare up in extreme heat

EXTREME temperatures coupled with dry conditions had the region's firefighters on alert at the weekend.

Multiple fire crews were called to Elbow Valley after a fire burning in a national park in New South Wales jumped over the border.

The blaze started about 10.40am on Saturday on Hopgood Rd.

Crews headed back to the scene yesterday to monitor the fire, which is burning within containment lines.

A Queensland Fire and Rescue spokeswoman was unable to say how big the fire was.
