FROM party place to money minding, the final refurbishments to the former Globe Hotel have seen the one-time watering hole transformed into sleek, modern office space for Globe Accounting.

Firm partners Pauline Pickering and Peter Driver said they started off as a small family business on the bottom floor of the building but rapid expansion saw them recently move in to the top.

"We came in as the two of us and my mother on reception in 2004," Ms Pickering said.

Ms Pickering and Mr Driver wanted to veer away from the traditional "Driver and Pickering" style names and embrace the well-known history of the building.

"People still know it as the Globe," she said.

"It ceased as a hotel in 1969 but we still get do get clients coming in saying we have had a beer or two in here.

"We had no clients, we just opened the doors and crossed our fingers and hoped for the best."

And it worked.

"We now have 17 staff," Ms Pickering said.

"The extra space has given us the ability to continue our growth.

Ms Pickering said the need for more room became obvious and the previously dingy rabbit warren of hotel rooms upstairs was transformed with new kitchen facilities, more office space and a small self-contained unit.

"We have a lady who comes in from Inglewood so she can stay there if she wants to and sometimes we have auditors who come through," she said.

Then with the expansion of the building came more growth in their staff including accountant David Cook, bookkeepers Miriam Verney, Scott Glasby and Russell Brodrick and Cath Hughes in administration.

The business has also expanded to cater for Inglewood once a week.

"We do anticipate more growth but we try not to have it happen too fast," Ms Pickering said.

"We like it to happen organically."

Mr Driver said the growth was a reflection of a need in the Warwick community.

"All of our growth has been by word of mouth, which really is the biggest compliment you can get," Mr Driver said.
