First hat thrown in election ring by local council manager

HE'S served as a manager for the Southern Downs Regional Council and now Adam Colrain has his eyes on a bigger job.

The former manager of design and assets is the first out of the gate ahead of next year's council election.

Mr Colrain, who has lived in Warwick for seven years, has 15 years of local government experience in three states.

It is his inside view of the way the council operates that has inspired his decision to run for council.

"We need a whole new approach - it's time for new ideas and new experiences," he said.

"We need to increase economic development in the region - bring in new businesses and corporations."

Mr Colrain, a project management business owner, lists strategic planning and core business as his priorities.

"We need to get back to basics - the delivery of core services to the community," he said.

Social justice issues including youth, domestic violence, suicide, mental illness and homelessness are also high on the candidate's agenda.

Mr Colrain was critical of the current council on a number of issues, including the budget, strategic management and councillor unity.

"As it was then (when I was there) and now, there's a lack of strategic direction from the top," he said.

"There's a real indecisiveness of the ability to gain resolution on decisions."

Despite the criticisms, Mr Colrain is still positive about the region's future.

"We have what it takes to make this a thriving, economically viable, sustainable environment for our families, youths, residents and visitors," he said.

"The community is starting to look up and look forward to what is in store for the future."

Mr Colrain is encouraging people to ask questions and connect with him on his Facebook page - Adam Colrain.
