FIRST STEPS: New committee seeks professional financial help

FINANCIAL consultants have already been contacted by members of a newly formed Warwick RSL Memorial Club management committee, who say they are determined to "get on with the job".

Confidence about the committee's validity has begun to solidify with reports of the old committee's resignation.

Acting manager Ben Wagner he was advised by former-president Geraldine O'Neill this morning that her committee was "no longer the committee" of the Warwick venue.

Mr Wagner was unable to comment on whether Mrs O'Neill's committee had decided to stand down voluntarily or accept the validity of a special general meeting held in Kings Theatre last night.

"I have received confirmation that the committee elected last night is officially the new committee of the club," Mr Wagner said.

The Warwick Daily News attempted to contact Mrs O'Neill but had not received a response at the time of publication.

Newly-elected president Greg Linnett said no official confirmation of the former committee's resignation had been provided to him.

But newly-elected secretary Philippa Whitman said the committee was keen to get down to business.

"We are proceeding on the basis that we have a job to do. That is the expectation of the members who attended last night," she said.

Mr Linnett said he had been in contact with business management consultants Kestrel Solutions this morning, keen to fulfil promises made at last night's meeting.

Twelve members in a room of more than 258 voted against a motion to removed Mrs Geraldine O'Neill OAM from her current position as president of the club.

"We are trying arrange for (Kestrel) to supply us with a manger that can hopefully move the club forward," he said.

Mr Linnett and Mrs Whitman both thanked members for their support at last night's meeting.

"It was great to see so many members attend. I think it was very ordered which showed that everyone had the best interest of the RSL at heart," she said.

"It was very rewarding and reassuring. It gave us the mandate to move forward and do what we could."
