First trial for the year for dog handlers in a month

MANY of the sheep dog trial participants on the Southern Downs will head to Tenterfield on the Australia Day long weekend.

The event will be run by Tony Mitchell, of Tenterfield, who has helped out at the dog trials for more than 20 years.

Queensland Working Sheep Dog Association president Linda Mitchell has moved from Tara to Allora in the past two months. She is the first woman to head the state association.

The association will have sheep dog trials at the Stanthorpe, Clifton and Millmerran shows before a short course event is held at the Warwick Show.

The event will be held in a smaller arena and the handler can help their dog more than in normal competitions.

Dogpro is the major sponsor at each of the shows.

Sheep dog registrations are open for all shows.
