Fitness pays in long run

TY LOCKHART didn't need to train for cross country to win his 14 years Border cross country race at Killarney yesterday.

The Assumption College student reckons he does enough playing rugby league for Collegians and the Warwick and District Chargers.

The win was his first at Border level.

Inglewood student Nikki Hoey easily won the 14 years girls event and is aiming to improve from a best of 16th at state championship level to the top five this year.

She rates her best distance 8km, twice what she ran yesterday.

She is already in the Darling Downs orienteering team to compete in the state championships in July and, on current form, will make the Darling Downs cross country team for a sixth successive year.
