Five hurt in head-on crash

EMERGENCY crews are currently at the scene of a two-vehicle head-on collision on the New England Highway at Braeside, south of Warwick.

An RACQ CareFlight spokeswoman said they are currently at Warwick Hospital waiting to transport a 17-year-old male, a passenger in one of the vehicles, who is in a serious condition.

"The patient has sustained spinal injuries, multiple internal injuries as well as a head laceration," the spokeswoman told the Daily News.

Emergency crews have only just freed the female driver of one of the vehicles who will be transported by Emergency Management Queensland helicopter.

The third passenger in the car was transported to Warwick Hospital with unknown injuries.

An elderly couple was travelling in the second vehicle involved in the crash and were taken by road to Stanthorpe Hospital with minor injuries.

It is understood both lanes of the highway are blocked, so motorists are urged to consider alternative routes as motorists have been told to expect lengthy delays while crews work to clear the road.
