Five speeders handed hundreds in fines

POLICE issued five speeding tickets in 16 hours of patrols around Warwick, Allora and Leyburn at the weekend.

Leyburn Police Senior Constable Matt Swan said all the drivers were caught exceeding the speed limit by between 13-20km/hr on Saturday and Sunday.

The highest speed recorded was a b-double truck travelling west on the Cunningham Highway in Warwick doing 98km/hr in a 80km/hr zone.

"It's disappointing to see that despite the high-visibility patrol and constant media exposure people still make the bad choice of exceeding the speed limit,” Snr-Constable Swan said.

"Speed limits are set taking into account road conditions, there's a reason we have speed limits because it's the safest way for motorists to get from point A to point B on the road.”

Four men and one woman each received a $261 fine and three demerit points.
