Five Warwick hockey players in state teams

HOCKEY: Adam Byrne, Matt Hagenbach, Peter Sommers and Luke Forte have been selected in the Queensland over 35s hockey team to play in this year’s nationals.

Byrne and Hagenbach are based in Warwick while Sommers and Forte are regulars in the over 35s team.

The four were part of the Warwick team which won the state championship in Rockhampton at the weekend in a field including the top Brisbane team.

Byrne has been further honoured with the co-captaincy.

That makes five state players in a week for Warwick after Matt Eastwell was called up last week to play for Queensland on an under-19 schoolboys tour to New Zealand.

Eastwell was originally a shadow player but the phone call he was hoping for came last week.
