Residents warned of smoke as fire continues to burn
UPDATE: A vegetation fire continues to burn near Whites Rd at Maryvale with fire crews on scene to monitor the blaze.
The fire started on Thursday night and was deemed to be a permitted burn that was under control and not posing a threat to property.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services has advised crews would remain on the scene over the weekend as the fire was expected to burn for some time.
Residents at Maryvale and Upper Freestone are advised to close windows and doors as they may be affected by smoke haze at the weekend.
If suffering from a respiratory condition, residents have been told to keep medications close by.
Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions as smoke is affecting surrounding roads.
If residents are concerned their property is under threat they are advised to call 000 immediately.
INITIAL: A fire spotted on the outskirts of Maryvale this evening has been deemed to be a permitted burn.
A spokeswoman from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said crews on the scene had reported the fire was under control.
Flames were spotted in the hills south of Maryvale about 5.30pm this afternoon.
Crews remain on scene to ensure the area is safe.
