Flight diverted after Brisbane man becomes verbally abusive

A 45-year-old Brisbane man has been charged after an alleged incident on a flight from Brisbane to Darwin today.

Police will allege that around 11:30am the man was on a flight when he became verbally abusive towards other passengers and crew members.

As a result of his actions the plane was diverted to Townsville and the man was escorted off the plane.

A 45-year-old Brisbane man was charged with offensive and disorderly behaviour, prohibited items on-board an aircraft - strict liability, assaulting crew, carrying prohibited items through a screening point, certain offences committed on aircraft and common assault.

He is due to appear in the Townsville Magistrate's Court tomorrow.
