Float your best idea to join parade

GET out the crepe paper, glue and scissors - entries for this year's Rose and Rodeo Street Parade have opened.

Warwick Tourism and Events CEO Tracy Vellacott said she was keen for more entries and encouraged businesses, schools and community groups to put on their thinking caps.

"This year's theme is open to interpretation but entrants might like to work with the 150th or heritage theme, perhaps a birthday party theme, or even all the colour and fun of a carnivale or circus," Mrs Vellacott said.

She said a number of local businesses, schools and groups had jumped on the band (or float) wagon, but she hoped many more would get on board for the event on October 19.

"I had the chance when I was younger to sit on a float in the parade waving to all the smiling faces and it was a great buzz," she said.

"The thrill was something I wanted for my own children, so a couple of years ago I encouraged my boys to do the decorated bicycle thing with a group of friends and they had amazing fun being part of the parade.

"Actually, I think the boys had all the fun while the parents had all the hard work associated with weaving endless rolls of crepe paper in and out of tyre spokes."

She said the parade was a great chance to do a bit of publicity for the small sum of $10 for entry, and an opportunity for schools to shine.

Mrs Vellacott said along with the Leslie Park craft markets, the parade was a big drawcard in Saturday's festival program for families.
