Flood maps on way

WARWICK must remain vigilant when it comes to monitoring water levels but the impending release of flood maps will aid in future preparations, Mayor Ron Bellingham said.

"We have been monitoring stream flows and we have had what you call a good fresh down the river with significant rain at the head of the Condamine, but it didn't affect our region," he said.

A council spokeswoman said Warwick and Killarney flood maps would be released in the near future and would be available on the council website for review.

"The maps detail calculated flood events across the Condamine and its tributaries," she said.

She said the map would help to confidently predict flood effects and to help control development in the flood plain.

She said during the 18 months the project has taken to complete, the general public had been "quite supportive and very informative".
