Folau hammers Kings in first 36 seconds of game

STATISTICIANS had a field day after Israel Folau helped inspire the Waratahs to a record-breaking scoring spree in the 72-10 hammering of the Southern Kings in Port Elizabeth yesterday.

Folau, the man-of-the-match, set up the first of the Tahs 11 tries against the competition newcomers after just 36 seconds when he beat four defenders to send winger Cam Crawford over for the first of his three tries.

Just minutes later, Folau was at it agin after beating another three players to score his sixth competition try since switching from AFL.

The final score was the biggest winning margin for the Waratahs since the 73-12 victory over the Lions in Sydney in 2010.

It was also the biggest winning margin by an away team, beating the Blues 60-7 win against the Hurricanes in Wellington in 2002.

The win, which was the Waratahs first overseas victory since May 2010, and first in the Republic since May 2009, also ranks high when it comes to handing out the biggest defeats in Super Rugby history.

Only the Bulls 89-point margin (92-3) against the Reds in 2007, and the Crusaders 77-point (96-10) win over the Waratahs in 2002, are above it.
