Foodies set to indulge

FOODIES will flock to Melrose Station on April 20 to indulge in some of the finest produce this country has to offer.

Former Killarney girl, and renowned chef, Jocelyn Hancock and Spring Creek Café's Bev Ruskey will be the hands behind the fry pans as they whip up a gourmet lunch for 135 guests at the Southern Downs Harvest Lunch.

Those who were quick enough to purchase tickets before they sold out will enjoy an educational and eye-opening luncheon.

All of this in the picturesque garden of Melrose Station in Killarney where the theme of the day is paddock to plate.

Event organiser Peta Hawes said the idea was to accentuate the processes that go into fresh food, all the while raising money for the Killarney Rural Fire Service.

"It's really just to advertise the fact that food doesn't have to be super fancy, it's about being fresh and wholesome and very elegantly prepared," Mrs Hawes said.

"We have a key speaker on the day, Alison Alexander, who is a Queensland inaugural food fellow and she will be talking about seasonal produce on the day."

All ingredients for the three course luncheon are supplied by local farmers, and all wines sourced from Granite Belt wineries.

"We have been following a lot of producers who are providing for the day and posting photos to Facebook so people can see what they are going to be eating on the day and follow that journey," Mrs Hawes said.

Those heading to the lunch are to arrive at noon with lunch to be served at 1pm.
