Football in doubt for 2017 unless officials come forward
FOOTBALL: The Warwick Wolves are desperately in need of willing officebearers if the sport is to be played in the town next season.
Many of the current committee members announced three months ago they were having a break from official positions but at the annual meeting, only one nomination was received for a committee position.
Vice-president Paul Butler said the current committee had a process in hand for a smooth transition to a new committee.
"I am disappointed more people have not come forward,” he said.
"The one committee runs junior and senior football in Warwick. If we don't have a committee, there will be no junior or senior football in the town.”
The AGM has been adjourned until Monday at Char-Belas Restaurant next to the Warwick Twin Cinema at 6.30pm.
Butler said 22 people attended the first meeting.
"It would be nice to get double that number this Monday. A couple of people have expressed an interest in taking on a position,” he said.
Last season, the Warwick Wolves had 530 playing members and fielded four teams in Toowoomba football, colts (under-18 boys), two men's teams and a ladies team.
The colts and ladies both made grand finals.
Butler said all of the current committee was not seeking re-election after some had been involved for up to six years.
"Most of the committee will be still involved as parents and be prepared to help out,” Butler said.
"The club has money in the bank and a strong sponsorship base so there are no problems. Planning is well and truly under way for the 2017 season.”
The committee has called Football South West about what happens if a new committee is not elected.
