TWO Warwick Cowboys and a Redbacks player rolled-up their jersey sleeves on Tuesday night to donate blood at the monthly Red Cross blood drive.

Redbacks player Gavin O'Leary was the only one of the trio who had given blood before.

"I hadn't given blood since I moved here from Roma," he said.

"So when Rocky (Redbacks coach Jason Wright) sent out the text about giving blood I thought it was a good time to get back into it."

O'Leary said he was not really sure what prompted him to give blood in the first place, other than that it was a simple way to help people in need.

"It takes about half an hour of your day and I think it is something that everyone should do."

Cowboys players Ayrton Friedrichs and Lyndsay Locke said giving blood was quite painless.

"It wasn't too bad at all," said Friedrichs.

"It is a way to give back to the community."

Friedrichs said he would be willing to do it again.

Australian Red Cross Blood Services registered nurse Trish Tucker said they had a very good turn-out on Tuesday.

Mrs Tucker said it was impressive to see community groups getting involved.

"I think every young person who can donate blood should," she said.

"It takes a little time and goes towards helping lots of people.

"It is always important as there are people whose daily lives depend on transfusions."

The Red Cross Blood Services visit Warwick on the third Tuesday on every month.
