Form of our Warwick Cup stacks up in the city

WARWICK doesn't get too many opportunities to shine in the bright lights of the racing world, but hopefully eyes will well and truly be on the town's feature race in future years.

The form out of this year's edition is stacking up incredibly well.

Four of the first five horses across the line have won since competing at the October 14 meeting.

Back-to-back Warwick Cup winner Belflyer continues to impress, picking up a dominant win at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday, following on from a third-placing in Saturday grade at Doomben.

Runner-up Rhyme Nor Rhythm has since scored in a $40,000 race, third place-getter Zip to the Moon has won both starts at Kumbia and Dalby, and Congelator, who was rated an $18-chance at Warwick, scored at Doomben on Melbourne Cup day.

Even last-placed Our Clarky claimed this month's Mount Perry Cup.

This is a fantastic advertisement for our biggest race, and will prompt people to take notice when nomination time comes around for next year's race.

It shows we aren't just attracting stragglers who can't pick their feet up, rather horses that are on to bigger and better things, and have city potential.

Speaking of Allman Park, we are under a fortnight away from Warwick's only harness meeting of the year, the Warwick Pacing Cup.

Last year's event, when held in September, attracted big fields across the day, with 61 runners across the six-race program.

In a big coup for the club, they were able to attract household names such as Julie Weidemann, Brittany Graham and Daryl Graham, who all mix it up at the metropolitan venues.

Comply or Die, last year's Warwick Pacing Cup winner, has gone on to win five races at Albion Park since the win, showing that strong follow-up form isn't just designated to the thoroughbreds.

This year's event is held on Saturday December 9.
