Former coach takes grandstand fight to Justice Department
WARWICK Redbacks life member and premiership winning former coach Jason Wright has phoned the Department of Justice and Attorney-General and the Redbacks parent bodies in a bid to save the grandstand on Warwick Credit Union Oval.
Wright’s request to the club committee to let the members decide at a general meeting on Monday night before any further demolition took place was considered late Wednesday but not agreed to.
His request for the grandstand to be a Monday night discussion issue was included on the agenda.
Earlier this month, president Iain Cutmore resigned over the move to demolish the grandstand and it is understood a replacement president will be elected on Monday night.
After not being guaranteed that demolition would be put off to after the Monday general meeting, Wright yesterday went to the Department of Justice and Attorney-General, AFL Darling Downs and AFL Queensland to put his point of view.
Club treasurer Adam Colrain said the club could not comment after the matter was referred to the Department of Justice and Attorney-General.
Last week, Colrain spoke of safety issues with the grandstand, the installation of some new seats in front of the grandstand and the keenness of the committee to get spectators to use the clubhouse at games.
Wright said he had come up with an alternative to demolition which he wanted to put to the members on Monday night.
“I can arrange for the grandstand to be repaired and upgraded at no cost through training programs within the next three months. There are willing sponsors prepared to pay for advertising on the stand.”
