Former Qld treasurer appointed to ASC board

FEDERAL Labor Sports Minister Kate Lundy has appointed former Queensland treasurer Andrew Fraser to the board of the Australian Sports Commission.

Mr Fraser was the youngest ever state treasurer and was held in high regard in state Labor circles before he lost his seat in the party's remarkable defeat at the state election in May.

Minister Lundy's appointment will likely come with a tidy pay cheque for Mr Fraser.

In the 2011-12 financial year, most commissioners were paid up to $29,000 a year, with some earning as much as $59,000 to sit on the board.

Ms Lundy released a statement which said Mr Fraser was appointed in part because of his previous roles as both state treasurer, and an earlier role as state sports minister.

Ms Lundy's office did not respond to questions on Tuesday regarding what Mr Fraser's remuneration package would include.
