Scots PGC College years forge lifelong relationships
FORMER students of Scots PGC College young and old attended a special reunion at the school on Saturday.
Nola and John Sloss, Deidre Counsell and her brother Malcolm Neill all attended Scots PGC College during the 1950s.
"We all went to boarding school so many of us are from various places where there wasn't a high school handy," Mrs Sloss said.
"It's funny the memories you have of some of the buildings here," Mr Neill said.
"I remember being in the dormitories and hearing on the wireless that King George VI had died.
"The school community was very close-knit because it was so small.
"In boarding you got to know everyone's birthdays and middle names - you practically knew each other as well as brothers."
The former students reflected on their time at the school, at a time when the Presbyterian Girls' School was still separate from the boys' Scots College.
Mr and Mrs Sloss recalled meeting during their time at the school.
"I was a sub-junior and he was a senior when we first getting to know each other," Mrs Sloss said.
"Nola fell in love with me at a school dance," Mr Sloss said.
"She worked on me for a bit after that but it didn't take long for me to fall in love with her, too.
"We had a Scots PGC marriage - we've been married for 50 years and celebrated our anniversary in April."
The couple now lives in Wamuran where Mr Sloss has worked as a shareholder supplier for the Capilano honey company.
They both said it was a good experience to come back to Warwick some 60 years after graduating to reunite with classmates.
"We're lucky to survive to be here," Mrs Sloss said.
"When you're our age every day is a good day, and it's great to catch up with old classmates," Mr Sloss said.
