Former world record holder visits Warwick swimmers

THE Warwick Swimming Club welcomed a very special guest at their club training on Friday night.

Former Australian representative and world record holder Jade Edmistone paid a visit to the club at their training base at WIRAC, chatting to both administrators and swimmers.

Edmistone broke the world record for the 50m breaststroke at a meet in Canada, where she recorded a time of 30.45 seconds, before besting that record in Melbourne in 2006, with a time of 30.31 seconds.

Warwick Swimming Club secretary Kylie White said it was a great experience for the club to host someone of Edmistone's calibre.

"She had a bit of a motivational talk with the kids before they started club," White said.

"Jade discussed how she always strived to be better, and keeping herself improving.

"She also told them how she didn't have a personal best for five years, and how that doesn't mean having to give up.

"She stuck around, watched the kids swim, and had a photo with them as well."

Edmistone is currently a club development officer with Swimming Queensland, and White said she discussed future development of the club.

"Jade went through some of the things SQ was trying to help clubs with, how they can better support clubs, and trying to reduce fee structures to get more people into swimming," she said.

"Clinics were also discussed, as kids out this way can sometimes miss out."
