Forty drivers nominated for Road Trip at the drags

DRAG RACING: Forty drivers will be on the road to Warwick at noon tomorrow for an afternoon and night of racing at Morgan Park.

The event is organised by Lakeside Drags organiser Mick Apps and has been dubbed Road Trip.

The 40 drivers who have entered in street registered vehicles will drag race at Willowbank from 9am to noon tomorrow then drive to Warwick for racing at the Warwick Dragway from 2-7pm.

The visiting contingent of drivers will stay overnight in Warwick and then head to Lakeside on Sunday morning for finals as part of CruiseFest.

Apps said he had started the event in light of the demand for grassroots level fun.

"We have one driver driving his LX Torana from Bundaberg for Road Trip,” Apps said.

"This is the start of a event which will be held each year.

"80 (drivers) will be the maximum we are aiming for in future years to ensure everyone gets maximum enjoyment and time on the track.”

At the Warwick Dragway, round 2 of Road Trip will start at 2pm with each competitor chasing their fastest time slip. There are points for the fastest times in all seven classes at Willowbank and Warwick prior to the finals at Lakeside which will start with practice and eliminations.

Warwick District Drag Racing Association vice-president John Loy will run his blown Torana on Saturday night to add to the entertainment.

"John will do passes in the five-second range,” he said.

Well-known drag racer Chris Hollingworth will be on Road Trip in his Chevrolet C10
