Forty years behind the wheel for Wickhams employee
CHRISTMAS time is a chance to reflect, and for Kevin McGregor it was a chance to look back on 40 years as an employee with Wickham Freight Lines and Wickham Farms.
Since joining the family business at the age of 19, Mr McGregor has been a familiar sight behind the steering wheel of the company's forklifts.
At the annual staff Christmas Party on December 6, Mr McGregor was presented with a grandfather clock in recognition of his 40 years service.
Retired founder of Wickhams Peter Wickham said the grandfather clock had been a running joke between the company and Mr McGregor.
"It was a bit of a special gift, we used to give watches to employees for long service," he said.
"It started as a bit of a joke with Kevin that if he stayed for 40 years we'd get him a clock and here he is.
"I think it was still a surprise for him when he saw it."
Mr Wickham was full of praise for his former employee.
"They don't come any better," he said.
"He's very loyal and trustworthy - the best you can get."
A humble Mr McGregor said he had no plans to retire any time soon.
"It was my very first job when I started at Wickhams and I've been there ever since," he said.
"I just take it day by day and do what I've got to do."
