Forward gets a rest after super game in the cup
RUGBY LEAGUE: Any forward who averages more than 10 metres a hit up in a rugby league game would go to sleep happy.
Killarney prop Stephanie Hancock had 15 hit ups for 186m for an average of 12.4m a hit up in the 38-0 win against England on Sunday which has virtually assured Australia of the easiest possible game in the semi finals of the Women's World Cup. She made 18 tackles in her 56 minutes on the field.
Such is her value to the team, Hancock is being rested for today's 3pm (AEST) game against Canada.
Former Scots PGC student Heather Ballinger started in the front row in the win against England after being rested for the first game against the Cook Islands. She will come off the bench wearing No.15 against Canada.
"You lead by example, four World Cup campaigns, all at amateur status - essentially paid your own way, made a ton of personal sacrifices along the way and still so humble and proud to represent your country,” Pat Lovett wrote about Hancock on the Jillaroos Facebook page.
The post continued "a great leader for the young and not so young to look up to and follow, so proud of you Steph keep up the great work”.
Hancock hails from Killarney and looks set to play in another World Cup final. Family, friends and rugby league fans from the Southern Downs have the chance to head to Brisbane on December 2 for the final, but tickets are selling fast.
The women's final is in the late afternoon and will be followed by the men's final at night.
This afternoon's (Wednesday) program at Shark Park has England and Cook Islands meeting in the first game, Australia and Canada in game 2 and New Zealand and Papua New Guinea in game 3.
Semis are at Shark Park on November 26 and going on results so far it would seem likely Australia will avoid the tough New Zealand team in the semis.
