Forward in doubt for Lions clash

BACK rower Scott McMahon is in doubt with the flu as the Warwick Cowboys take on Newtown Lions in the round five Toowoomba Rugby League A-grade fixture at Father Ranger Oval on Sunday.

Coach Gary Lawrence said, while he liked the night games, the team was prepared for its first Sunday afternoon game of the season.

“We have had good crowds for Friday and Saturday night games and hope the town of Warwick shows its support for the Cowboys by coming out and watching some good footy,” Lawrence said.

Representative back rower Luke Brosnan has a quadriceps injury and is being rested and his replacement in the starting side McMahon is battling the flu.

“I will give Scott until Sunday to prove his fitness, he trained well on Tuesday and has been strong off the bench in the first three games,” Lawrence said.

“I know Newtown has some nippy backs and Trevor Sharpley will lead the side well from the forwards.

“We just have to concentrate on our game and not worry about Newtown.”

Lawrence is planning to have two fresh players on the bench and then promote two from the lower grades.

Warwick has two wins and a draw in its first three A-grade fixture games.

The first game of the day, C grade is at 10am with A grade at 2.30pm.
