Four teams in running for titles in the footy

SPORTSVIEW with Gerard Walsh

FINALS time is on and the Southern Downs has four teams left in the running to take some of those Toowoomba trophies south of Nobby.

I often say I only go to Toowoomba if I need medical help in a hurry and to get photos of our teams winning Toowoomba trophies.

So we are left with the Warwick Redbacks in Division 2 Aussie rules, the sevens women in rugby, the Cowboys under-18 side in men's TRL footy and the Warwick Wolves colts footballers.

Interesting it is one team from each code, the unlucky team is the Cowboys' second-division side which went down by two points on Saturday.

I am not going to put odds on which sides are most likely to win a premiership but the Rats, Wolves and Redbacks won minor premierships but you could say they all had wake-up calls at the weekend.

So what about putting the grand final dates in your diary and if they make it, head to Toowoomba to support the team/s you are closest to.

GF day in the rugby is September 2, it is September 3 in the TRL, September 8 for the Wolves and September 9 for the Redbacks.

Remember, I am seeking through this column supporters of the Water Rats women to join in a push to back the women to win the premiership. We say they will win and if they don't, do a few fun, strenuous things in a Ratathon to pay the price for getting it wrong.

Superbikes

SEEMS support is building for the Australian Superbike Championships this weekend in Warwick.

I work out to some extend support for events by the number of people who raise with me coming events like the superbikes.

And from where I sit, there is a fair bit of support for the bike weekend.
