Four vehicles involved in crash on Bruce Hwy near Iveragh
TRAFFIC was banked up from Iveragh to near Benaraby on Wednesday after a four-vehicle pile-up at roadworks on the Bruce Hwy.
Nobody was seriously injured in the crash, which closed one lane of the highway for almost four hours.
Police at the scene said the driver of one car failed to stop at the traffic controller at the start of a section of roadworks.
The crash, which occurred about 8am, was 28km north of Miriam Vale.
Most occupants from the four vehicles were transported to Gladstone Hospital where they were treated for cuts and abrasions.
One woman was admitted to hospital for observation, while the others were discharged after treatment.
Police are still investigating and are yet to determine the cause of the crash.
Four ambulances and two fire trucks attended the crash site.
Truck drivers caught up in the traffic jam were frustrated with yet another delay on the highway caused by a crash.
Tow truck drivers struggled to get to the crash because of the built-up traffic.
Senior Sergeant Tony Poli, of Tannum Sands Police, has advised drivers to be more careful on the highway near roadworks.
He said people need to be more careful and realise the importance of obeying the roadwork signs.
Wednesday 4.30pm: Six people were brought to Gladstone Base Hospital following the crash, with five of those seen and now released. One person is still admitted but is in a stable condition.
11.45am: Most occupants of the vehicles involved in this morning's four-car crash on the Bruce Hwy have been taken to hospital.
Police said one vehicle failed to stop for a traffic controller at a stretch of roadworks on the highway.
Officers are investigating.
