Fraser set to stick to bull at Cowboys Rodeo

FRASER Babbington is what they call a sticker in bull riding and there is money to be won if he can stick on better than the other 24 riders in the Warwick Cowboys Rodeo on May 1.

The Friday night rodeo will be held on a TRL free weekend so there is nothing to stop the footballers jumping on a bullock or two for a bit of fun.

The open bull ride has been named in memory of the late Adam Merrell, a keen rugby league player and rodeo rider who was well liked in all sports.

The major action will be in the Adam Merrell Memorial Open Bull Ride and Babbington will travel from Beaudesert as the favourite.

He has the record score in bull riding in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association and leads the standings in the Rural Weekly Live Series PBR Bull Ride.

Formerly from New Zealand, Babbington is one of the toughest of the cowboys to dislodge during his eight-second rides.

Both Babbington and Hunter Valley cowboy Jason O'Hearn have won APRA titles.

O'Hearn won the Allora Show bull ride this year which earnt him an air fare to the United States.

Scott Keogh is promoting the rodeo which will also include a local bullock ride, footballers' mule ride, junior steer ride, pony bareback ride, junior poddy ride and peewee ride on a mechanical bull.

Nominations for the bull ride to Keogh on 0400 734 990.

All other nominations on the night.
