Callum Freeman stars in Cowboys’ victory
RUGBY LEAGUE: Callum Freeman shone in his longest A-grade appearance to date as the Warwick Cowboys beat Valleys 20-16 in Saturday night's TRL game at Herb Steinohrt Oval, Toowoomba.
Freeman has previously had five-minute periods on the field but was strong in his 30 minutes on the field against a club which has been the strongest in the league for most of the past seven years.
"It was definitely our best performance of the season," club president Mary-anne Loudon said.
"Player points went to Jacob Morgan, Garry Ellery and Trent Achilles in a top team effort.
"It is hard to single anyone out as they all played well.
"We did well particularly as the penalty count went against us in A-grade."
Warwick led at half-time and held the lead all the way to the final whistle.
The A-grade side went through the game without any injuries and had three players out for the game against Valleys.
In reserve grade, Warwick went down 50-18 after going into the game without four regular players. Morgan Taylor was players' player with Jay Hankinson best forward and Tim Harch the best back.
Warwick is equal fifth with Dalby after all round six games.
In the under-18 game, Warwick lost narrowly for the second time this season 20-18 to Valleys.
Michael Pearson scored the final try for the Cowboys but the conversion was missed.
Warwick dropped a lot of ball.
There is no club footy this weekend due to Mother's Day but the Warwick Cowboys will be busy on Friday night with the annual rodeo to raise funds for Warwick Ambassador entrant Jesse Banks.
The next games will be on May 18 when Warwick hosts Wattles in three grades and Millmerran in one.
